Healing The Silent Saboteur

Cracking the code of denial

Insidious, invisible and painful, the faces of denial from violence or trauma present an ever-changing challenge for clinicians. How do you identify the forms of denial when their presence is unrecognizable to their bearer? How do you see what won't be looked at and embrace it into treatment?

This workshop will focus on interviewing techniques for accurately assessing denial and offer the perspective that denial is a belief system that can be shifted from a defense mechanism to a newfound coping skill. We will present an in depth look at the process and content of interviews, the role of the treatment structure, the role of the therapist, and how interviewing fits into the overall assessment and treatment. You will learn how to crack the code of denial and how to redirect it into a healthy belief system.
