Giving hope and healing to male survivors of childhood sexual abuse

This gender-specific presentation examines the aftermath of child sexual assault that brings adults into treatment with symptoms of self-blame, intrusive memories, dissociation, sexual dysfunction, substance and food abuses or self-mutilation.

Through the use of individual, group, family and family of origin work, the client can rediscover strengths and aspects of themselves that can help them become unfrozen in time and move beyond survival. Interventions explore a gender sensitive language when working with male survivors during assessment and focuses on understanding societal issues and how they differ for men and women.
